Recognize When the Site Has Drifted
Even well-maintained sites drift over time. Styles diverge from the global settings as individual overrides accumulate. Templates get duplicated with small variations that were never reconciled. Plugins get added to solve one problem and never removed after the problem changed.
A periodic review of the site's structure is a reasonable part of ongoing maintenance. This does not need to be exhaustive, but it should include:
- Checking that global styles are still in use and have not been overridden inconsistently
- Reviewing saved templates and removing anything that is no longer used
